[krəʊtʃ], Robert, kanadischer Schriftsteller und Kritiker, * Heisler (Provinz Alberta) 26. 6. 1927; nach Lehrtätigkeit 1961-75 an der State University of New York (Binghamton) war er Professor für Englisch an der University of Manitoba. Ausgehend von einem noch realistischen Roman, »But we are exiles« (1965), hat sich Kroetsch unter amerikanischem und lateinamerikanischem Einfluss zum profiliertesten Vertreter anglokanad. postmodernen Erzählens entwickelt; fabulierfreudiger Erzähler, der v. a. Mythen und Legenden von Präriesiedlern und Indianern thematisiert; schreibt auch experimentelle Lyrik.
